Grocery Access

How far is the nearest supermarket? Data from the USDA Food Access Research Atlas (2019) for a representative census tract near each area center. Actual access varies by specific address.

These figures show the share of residents in each representative census tract who live more than 1 mile from the nearest supermarket or large grocery store. The USDA Low Income + Low Access (LILA) designation — the official "food desert" marker — requires both a high poverty rate and low access by USDA standards; none of the seven representative tracts here carry that flag, partly because rural areas use a 10-mile threshold rather than 1 mile.
